Check out my latest protective hair style! This go round I opted for something quick that would still allow me to wash and condition my natural hair regularly, give my hair a much needed break, and look fab all at the same time!
I am excited to share with you my latest protective hair style but first the "why." I do A LOT to my hair and every once in a while protective styling is a must to keep my hair happy and healthy. I am also more active at the gym these days and working out on a regular basis. Protective styling makes it easy to get in and out the gym without too much fuss of what to do with all this hair afterwards! #noexcuses
MEET JACKIE! She's a synthetic lace front wig from Outre.
Type: Synthetic Lace Front
I prepped my natural hair by doing my standard wash and condition routine. I let my hair air dry then installed flat twist in large sections with no leave out. I didn't care to be neat as I knew no one would see them. If you can't flat twist try single twist and pin them flat to your head. You really just want your natural hair to lay as flat as possible so the wig lays flat.
Type and Price - I chose a synthetic wig solely based on the price point. I wanted to try an affordable option that wouldn't break the bank if I decided I didn't like it. Outre has a great collection of synthetic wigs and in my opinion the curly options look more natural. (synthetic will not last nearly as long as a human hair version) Lace front was a must over a traditional wig as I wanted it to look as natural a possible
Style - Jackie is a short curly bob cut. Voluminous with a lot of personality!
Color - 1B or off black. All though this comes in lots of various colors my local beauty supply on had 3. (Red, Blonde, Black) I ended up choosing black because I wanted something that would look natural. I wanted it to look good but not draw too much attention for the wrong reasons! My natural hair color is lifted so going back to black has been quite the change for me. Still getting used to it.
This wig is originally meant to have a middle part but middle parts don't always look flattering on me. No problem! I just turned the wig to the side to make a side part. .
There wasn't much styling to be done as Jackie comes pretty set right out the package. I did like it better with a shorter bang so I trimmed up the front and a little on the sides to frame my face.
Lastly, I added a touch of concealer to the part to make it look more natural and match my scalp color.
I know I know, the thought of wearing a wig seems strange to some but it's worth it to venture out of your comfort zone on this one! Find just the right wig and it can look just as good as any sew-in out there at a fraction of the cost. Give it a try!

Much like the "little black dress" the "little black tote" can be found in every woman's arsenal. It represents her go-to tote, bag, or purse that she wouldn't dare leave home without. It's filled with what she finds essential and a few surprises tucked in there too. This blog is just that! My little black tote.
